Driving Efficiency and Productivity for Drug Development and IT with Arvinas
Established in 2013, Arvinas is a clinical-stage biotechnology company dedicated to improving the lives of patients suffering from debilitating and life-threatening diseases through the discovery, development, and commercialization of therapies that degrade disease-causing proteins.
Arvinas has three clinical-stage programs focused on oncology as well as a robust, preclinical pipeline of protein degraders against validated and undruggable targets. With approximately 400 employees, Arvinas is headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut.
Challenge
Due to the rapid growth Arvinas is experiencing, they needed a tool to enhance project planning, reporting, and business processes across both development and IT portfolios, which would assist with efficiently viewing, reporting, and prioritizing work. Their programs are across therapeutic areas and span discovery through development. Drug development of a compound from discovery to launch is an extremely complex and lengthy process requiring coordination across all functions. In the case of Arvinas, they wanted to ensure that both drug development and IT were able to collaborate consistently, effectively, and productively.
Solution
The Orchestra solution implementation effort was a collaboration between the Arvinas team and Planisware professional services team. Together they defined requirements for planning, reporting, and portfolio modules to enable deployment for both drug development and IT. Careful consideration was taken to ensure the process could clearly identify and be able to differentiate the work for both drug development and IT portfolios. Throughout the initial deployment, both teams kept in mind Arvinas’ future goals of adding cost and resource management support through additional Orchestra modules.
Implementation of the Orchestra solution within Arvinas has become a single source of truth for both the drug development and the IT portfolios. The data coming from the planning, reporting, and portfolio modules are actively utilized for decision-making. Teams now have a transparent, governance “approved” plan that drives consistency, efficiency, and productivity across the organization. Teams and functions can view timeline bottlenecks, prioritize work, and provide accurate outputs to leadership and for governance meetings.
It was a breakthrough transition for the culture to start using a Project and Portfolio Management tool and we had a thorough implementation plan in just a few months. We are looking forward to continuing our journey with Planisware by implementing additional modules in both IT & R&D to enhance our future goals in having an all-inclusive Project and Portfolio Management tool.
